Nurturing Potential... Transforming Lives

About Us

Led by Professor Hugh W. Barnes, Jr., Director of Bands, the Coppin State University (CSU) Instrumental Music Program brings musically gifted students together to study and to perform.

Blending the rigors of a traditional liberal arts education with the benefits of studying at a leading HBCU, the music program offers students a thorough music education in a real-world context. Located at the center of Baltimore, the school is the collegiate partner of choice for the surrounding community.

As a young and up-and-coming program, we are dedicated to changing the lives of all our students, as well as to making sure they graduate on time with as few distractions as possible.

In addition to our hard work with Baltimore City youth, Coppin students are a presence in local schools, reaching out to the next generation of musicians through music lessons and tutoring. With its faculty, its students and events, the music program at Coppin is becoming one of the most important cultural resources for inner city youth.
