There are approximately ninety full-time tenure-track faculty members in the School of Arts and Sciences. Instructional support is also provided by a cadre of contractual and adjunct faculty members. Approximate ninety percent of full-time, tenure track faculty possess terminal degrees.
A major thrust to evaluate the impact of Developmental Studies on Student retention as reflected in earning credits, additional laboratory support has produced a gradual reduction in Developmental Studies offerings.
New student initiatives include an Evening Booth to welcome students during the first few days of each semester. Proposed scholarly video screening schedules for students at set times and location. Proposed Student Activity Day for public presentations of student's projects including music, dance, poetry, essays, scientific papers, etc.
The School of Arts and Sciences offers the majority of courses in the General Education sequence as well as a wide variety of major and minor programs in both the traditional Arts and Sciences disciplines and in areas reflecting Coppin's unique identity as a university serving a largely urban population.
Arts and Sciences majors must complete a major program and in some cases a minor program as well as the General Education Requirements to receive a Bachelor of Science degree or a Bachelor of Arts degree. The Bachelor of Arts degree requires the completion of intermediate level courses in one foreign language and 3 credits in Philosophy beyond the General Education Requirements.
Students interested in a program in Arts and Sciences may obtain information from either the office of the Dean of Arts and Sciences, Grace Hill Jacobs Office/Classroom Building (Room 538), or from the Chairperson of the Department in which they wish to pursue a major.
