What is the Adult Education Program?
The Adult Education Program offers a Master of Science degree to practitioners and other interested graduate students who are focused on enhancing their skills in administration and supervision of adult oriented programs. The program assists individuals in honing skills in budgeting, planning and managing programs designed to address the myriad range of needs of a complex adult population. The rudiments of adult education and counseling are covered in the program based on the premise that you must understand the complexities of the profile of the adult learner in order to be able to design delivery modalities which will address their needs. Courses such as the Adult Learner and Counseling Adults meet these very important criteria.
This 36 credit hour program strikes a balance between core courses that address the foundations of adult education and related areas of specialty courses and targets the particular chosen areas. They include the Administration & Supervision specialization; the Gerontology specialization; the Alcoholism Counseling specialization; the Rehabilitation Counseling, and Family Counseling specialization.
The Adult Education Department is committed to preparing leaders in the areas of adult education, counseling, gerontology, educational leadership, and as secondary school educators. Programs provide professional preparation including School Administrator I certification and family counseling. There are several specialty areas offered through the program.
