Nursing Clinical Requirements

Students planning to register or have registered for Nursing 211 Introduction to Nursing Process I have specific requirements that must be met prior to attending the first clinical day.

If the Fall will be the student's 1st semester in the Nursing Program and they have completed all of the Level I general education courses listed on the Coppin State University Helene Fuld School of Nursing Traditional Track Program of Study, then they are eligible to take NURS 120 -"Academic Success in Nursing" and NURS 211 -"Introduction to the Nursing Process I" together.

Students must have successfully completed all of the general education courses in Level I & II in order to take Nursing 211 . If not, the only Nursing course they may enroll in is Nursing 120 -"Academic Success in Nursing" in the Fall semester. If there are any questions about this, students should contact Office of Student Affairs & Recruitment in the HFSON or their faculty advisor.

Health Clearance

All students are required to have an annual Health History & Physical Form completed by their Primary Care Provider. Students can also schedule an appointment to be seen in the Community Health Clinic by calling (410) 951-4188. Healthcare providers are required to use the form provided by the School of Nursing.

Uniforms

All students are required to wear the Coppin State University regulation uniform. The uniform must be ordered no later than August 1 to be received in time for the first clinical day.

Nursing Kit

In addition to the nursing uniform, you will need to obtain the following accessories:

CPR Certification

Nursing student CPR certification is required yearly for all courses having a clinical rotation. Students must submit a copy of their CPR card to faculty the first day of class. All cards must be valid through spring semester.

A CPR class is scheduled in August of each year from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm for Certification and Recertification (approximately 2 hours). The cost is $25.00 (Cash Only). Those individuals requesting recertification must submit a current or recently expired CPR card. If you have additional questions, email Professor Mildred Yarborough at myarborough@coppin.edu.
