Abby Byrnes

Name:   Abby Byrnes, Manager
Center For Teaching And Learning With Technology
E-Mail:  abyrnes@coppin.edu

Abby first came to Coppin State University in Fall 2005 when she was a Training Manager at Tegrity helping to roll out the software campus-wide.

Abby has experience in both higher education and corporate worlds. She began her career as a programmer for IBM, and quickly decided to move into more people-centered work. Other corporate experience includes network and computer consulting at a company whose customers included non profits and NGOs, such as the Ford Foundation, Hewlett foundation, Packard Foundation, and CGIAR. She was also the training manager for a telecommunications hardware company and for Tegrity.

Her higher education experience includes work at Northwestern University in the Medill School of Journalism, where she helped faculty, staff and students use new technology and integrate it into the curriculum. She taught computer science at Diné College in Shiprock, New Mexico; and most recently worked at Stanford University in their Academic Computing department.

Dionne N. Curbeam

Name:   Dionne N. Curbeam, Instructional Technologist
E-Mail:  dcurbeam@coppin.edu

A native Baltimorean, Dionne is excited to work in concert with the faculty of Coppin State University to effectively integrate technology into teaching and learning as a means to elevate student achievement and instructional delivery. After earning a Bachelors degree from Bowie State University (Bowie, Maryland) and a Masters degree from Towson University (Towson, Maryland), Dionne returned to her undergraduate alma matter to pursue a Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Educational Technology.

Dionne is familiar with all levels of education, spanning from being a lecturer at the Community College of Baltimore County, Essex, to being a teacher and later technology coordinator with the Baltimore City Public School System. While working for Baltimore City, Dionne was a trailblazer in integrating technology into the curriculum, ranging from using Blackboard for instructional delivery to having students create web portfolios to demonstrate learning in a specific content area. She taught numerous technology integration and pedagogy workshops for Baltimore City teachers and administrators. Her stellar work resulted in an article published in The Baltimore Sun and earning an award for being one of the Best Educators Using Technology in Baltimore City for the 2006-2007 school year.

In addition to contributing articles to the Baltimore Afro-American Newspaper and the Baltimore Times, Dionne has spoken and trained at various venues and conferences, including the Prince Georges County Powering Up with Technology Conference and the Baltimore County Public Schools E-Learning Summit.

Although Dionne is thankful for her accomplishments, she continually strives to "be proud, but remain humble," and continues her personal mission of being a blessing to those she meets, especially young people.
