The goal of the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is to help low-income individuals who are age 55 and older with their search for employment. Eligible candidates receive job training, new skills, self confidence and support to find full-time employment. This program is the quintessential “win-win.” The senior receives up to 20 hours per week of paid training with a non-profit organization. The employer, a non-profit organization, receives an individual well-trained and eager to work who can help them with their employment needs, either on a short-term basis or as a permanent hire.
The SCSEP provides both community services and work-based training. SCSEP’s are paid the highest of federal, state or local minimum wage. They are placed in a wide variety of community service activities at non-profit and public facilities, including day-care centers, senior centers, schools , colleges , and hospitals. It is intended that community service training serves as a bridge to unsubsidized employment opportunities; SCSEP's goal is to place 30% of its authorized positions into unsubsidized employment annually.
