Prospective Students
Scholarships are one means by which students can finance their education. Coppin State realizes this fact
and has generated a list of internal scholarships available to CSU students, as well as, other scholarship
resources.
Coppin State University offers and awards institutional scholarships on the basis of merit, academic
achievement, field of study, and other qualifying factors.
Students pursing an undergraduate or graduate degree at Coppin are encouraged to use all resources
available when investigating aid, including the comprehensive list of internal scholarships and other
online scholarship resources available on the Financial Aid web page.
The following lists are institutional scholarships available to Coppin State University Students.
Athletic
Athletic Scholarships
Award amounts are given based on athletic ability. Amounts range up to a full scholarship. All incoming
freshman student-athletes must register with the NCAA Clearinghouse. To register with the Clearinghouse
please see your High School Guidance Counselor at the beginning of your senior year of high school.
Prospective student-athletes should contact the head coach of the sport in which they are interested.

Scholarship Amounts effective Fall 2004.
- Gold Freshman Merit Award
Requirements: First-time, full-time freshman, 950 or better combined SAT score, 2.5 or higher high
school GPA, successful completion of Coppin’s placement exam (no more than one refresher course
required)
Award:$2000 per year, renewable for up to 8 semesters
- Blue Freshman Merit Award
Requirements: First-time, full-time freshman; 900 or better combined SAT score; 2.5 or higher high
school GPA; successful completion of Coppin’s placement exam (no more than one refresher course
required)
Award:$1000 per year, renewable for up to semesters
- Gold Transfer Merit Award
Requirements: Full time student; community college transfer student; successful completion of at
least 56 credits; 2.8 of higher GPA
Award:$1500 per year, renewable for up to 4 semesters
- Blue Transfer Merit Award
Requirements: Full-time student; community college transfer student; successful completion of at
least 25 credits; 2.5 or higher GPA
Award:$800 per year, renewable for up to 6 semesters

Honors
Honors Scholarships
- Golden Eagle Scholarships
The first-semester, first-year student must have a 3.2 high school GPA , or its equivalence and a
SAT score of 1820. The award provides in-state or out-of-state tuition/fees and room/board charges.
- Eagle Scholarships
The first-semester, first-year student must have a 3.0 GPA high school GPA, or its equivalence and
a SAT score of 1590. The award provides in-state or out-of-state tuition/fees charges.
- Opportunity Scholarships
The first-semester, first-year student must have a 2.0-2.9 high school GPA, or its equivalence; a
SAT score of 1700 and complted the Univeristy entrance exam. The award provides one-half (1/2) of
in-state or out-of-state tuition/fees for one semester. Conversion to an Eagle Scholarship after
first year upon completion of 24 or more graduation credits and earning a 3.0 grade point average
or higher.
- Upper Division Scholarships
Applicants must have 45 credit hours and no more than 60 credit hours; GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale;
completed English Compostion I and II; be a full-time student. The award provides $600 per semester.
It is renewed each semester the student earns a current grade point average of 3.3 and maintains a
cumulative grade point average of 3.3. Each scholarship recipient must also earn at least 12
credits at the completion of each semester.

India-Continental
India-Continental Award
Applicants must be in their sophomore or junior year to apply; have a 3.5 GPA and have an
appreciation of all cultures. Awards vary in amount.

Merit
Merit Scholarships
- Families with Disabled Members
Designed to assist individuals who have family members with disabilities. This program
provides full tuition and fees to support educational goals leading toward a Baccalaureate
Degree and Teaching Certification.

- Teachers for Tomorrow Program
Provides full tuition and fees (based on funding) for first and second year Baltimore City
School Teachers to earn a Master’s Degree.

- Adapted Physical Education Teaching Program
Designed for individuals currently employed as teachers of physical education who are
interested in providing specialized programming for students with special education needs
who require modified/adapted physical education.

Nursing
Nursing Scholarships
- Ethel Gordon Scholarship Fund
Applicants eligible for graduation should apply this award by March 15th of their senior
year. Applicants should have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and 2.5 GPA in nursing courses.

- Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students (SDS) Program
Applicants must be accepted to the nursing program; completed the FAFSA; be a US citizen or
eligible non-citizen and be from a disadvantaged background. Awards vary in amount.
Note: The awarding of the SDS scholarship is based on the availability of funding.

- Pre-Med/Psychology Social Work/Nursing/Maxie Collier Scholarships
The applicant must be a MD resident; be a declared Nursing, Pre-Med, Psychology, or Social
Work major; officially enrolled as a freshman or sophomore with a 3.0 GPA; desire a career
in mental health in the State of MD Mental Health System, and willing to commit to the
undergraduate/graduate levels of training. Awards are $1000 per semester.

RSA
Rehabilitation Services Administration Scholarships
The applicant must be accepted through the Graduate Division as a regular status student, with a
declared major in Rehabilitation Counseling. Qualified students will receive Rehabilitation Services
Administration Scholarships to provide Tuition and Fees for the completion of 49 credit hours,
fulfilling the requirements for the Masters Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. Awards are
renewable, if eligibility criteria are maintained.

ROTC
ROTC Scholarships
The ROTC scholarship pays for tuition, required educational fees, and provides a specified amount
for books, supplies, and equipment.
- Four-Year Scholarship Requirements
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Be 17 years old before the scholarship is effective.
- Take the SAT or ACT no later than November of the year you apply (must have a
minimum 920 SAT or composite 19 ACT).
- Be a high school graduate or have equivalent credit with a Grade Point
Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher.
- Show a pattern of leadership and participate in extracurricular activities.
Students with part time jobs will be given substitute credit.
- Be less than 27 years old on June 30 of the year you expect to graduate and
receive your officer's commission (an age extension of up to three years may be granted to
veteran's who qualify).
- Agree to accept a commission as either a Regular Army, U.S. Army Reserve or
Army National Guard Officer.
- Meet required physical standards of 50 points in each event on the Army
Physical Fitness Test.
- Three-Year Scholarship Requirements
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Have a SAT/ACT composite score of 920/19, respectively.
- Meet required physical standards of 50 points in each event on the Army
Physical Fitness Test.
- Two-Year Scholarship Requirements
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Must have 55 or more earned credit hours and be able to graduate in two to
three years.
- Meet required physical standards of 50 points in each event on the Army
Physical Fitness Test.
- Other Scholarships
Each academic year various organizations and other military related activities make
scholarship funds available to students enrolled in Army ROTC. Some organizations making
theses awards are USAA (United Services Automobile Association), AUSA (Association of the
United States Army), VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars), etc.
