Parent Orientation is a half day-long program on the first day of New Student Orientation (NSO). Parents and guardians learn about first-year issues and campus life through information sessions and activities. Past programs have included sessions on wellness and safety, academic curriculum and advisement, financial aid, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), life in residence halls, commuting student programs and services, and transition issues for first-year students and their families. Parents also have an opportunity to participate in a campus tour.
Students can register their parents online for the Parent Orientation. Parents will need to say goodbye to their students when they drop them off at the James Weldon Johnson Auditorium on Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. Students will continue with their program while parents head to Parent Orientation in the J. Millard Tawes Center Ballroom. If you are picking up your student on the last day of New Student Orientation, please do so about two hours after the last scheduled event/appointment he/she needs to attend. Please be aware that not all students finish at the same time. Students will be assigned individual appointment times during New Student Orientation programming.
In the New Student Orientation brochure in your student's Welcome Folder, your student has an extensive list of things to do before New Student Orientation.
