University Marquee Policy
Visual Standards Manual (PDF)
Effective: April 2005

Purpose: The primary purpose of the Coppin State University Marquee is to enhance the quality of student life through increased communication to the general student population about programs, community events, and activities.

Scope: The policy applies to all university departments, university events, and external groups desiring to use the university marquee.

Policy

General Policy: The university marquee is an on-campus electronic sign located on West North Avenue announcing events or activities that utilize university facilities. Persons not following this policy may be denied use of campus facilities.

Criteria for Allowable Messages: University offices may post messages about campus activities and programs. The Office of University Relations reserves the right to refuse any requested posting that it deems inappropriate or based on current message volume.

External groups may display messages only for those events and activities that utilize campus facilities and are open to the general public. Contact persons for external groups using any university athletic facility (i.e. James Weldon Auditorium, Tawes Center, and Dining Facility) are to consult with the Campus Events Schedule Coordinator in the Division of Student Life. When creating display messages, external groups should consult with the Office of University Relations.

Multiple Requests: Multiple requests from the same office or department for use of the marquee during a given time period may not be accommodated.

Charges for Use of University Marquee: External users are charged for the use of the university marquee. Fees are included in the cost of using facilities and are invoiced and collected by the facilities managers. Contracts with sponsors of university activities will include any costs for the use of the marquee. Charges are waived for public agencies and university-sponsored events and programs.

Additional Assistance: Questions about this policy and the use of the university marquee should be directed to the Office of University Relations at (410) 951-4200.

Requests for Posting: All requests for posting to the university marquee are initiated by a PR Marketing form online, which must be completed and forwarded to the Office of University Relations (OUR). Request forms shall be submitted to the Office of University Relations at least ten (10) working days prior to the date of the program, event, or activity is to be posted. No program, event, or activity will be posted within two (2) working days of the program.

  • Display messages will be limited to 50 words and may be edited to conform to the general journalistic style of answering "who," "what," "when," "where," and/or "how much".
  • The maximum length of time any message may be posted is two (2) weeks. The length of time a program is displayed is at the discretion of the Office of University Relations.
  • The Office of University Relations provides no guarantee that every program, event, or activity for which a request is received will be posted.
  • Due to limited space, programs, events, and activities will be prioritized at the discretion of the Office of University Relations.

Processing of Requests: All postings to the university marquee are reviewed and processed by the Office of University Relations. Upon request, the Office of University Relations will provide information about marquee capabilities and examples of possible posting formats.
