Celebratory Event to take place on March 26 at 2 p.m. in Coppin Center
(BALTIMORE - March 25, 2008) A Pep Rally will be held on the Coppin State University campus on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 to honor the Men's and Women's basketball teams beginning at 2 p.m. in the Coppin Center. CSU President Dr. Reginald S. Avery will be joined by the Coppin Family, elected officials and others for the Rally.
The Pep Rally is being held to celebrate the Men's and Women's teams both capturing the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament (MEAC) Championships and earning the league's automatic berths into the NCAA Tournament.
Coppin State was one of 24 schools in the nation that was represented by both its men's and women's teams in the NCAA Tournament and it marked the first time in school history that both teams advanced to the NCAA's during the same season.
The men's team captured the MEAC title with a 62-60 victory over Morgan State, while the women's team defeated North Carolina A&T 72-70 to earn their third MEAC Championship in the last four years.
The men's team played Mount St. Mary's in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament and the women's team faced Maryland in a first round game. Despite valiant efforts in both contests, the teams fell short of advancing in the Tournament.
The Coppin State Cheerleaders, the Dancing Diva's and the Pep Band will all be on hand to honor both teams. Event highlights also include an Eagle Mascot Competition, Three Point Shot Competition, Award Presentations, and other activities.
