BALTIMORE 4/14/05 - Coppin State University has won a major multi-year grant from the National Aeronautical and Space Agency (NASA) to enhance its Geography program and to expand research using satellite data.
Coppin’s $815,000 proposal, entitled “Inspiring the Eagles” was selected from 147 proposals submitted.
The three-year project will provide students opportunities to participate in research in the field at sites in Alaska, Africa and elsewhere and will craft a new curriculum of courses on subjects including Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems.
“NASA is such a terrific resource for our nation and our state,” stated Dr. Douglas Reardon, the project’s director. “This project will create a pipeline for Coppin students to go on to graduate school and to embark on careers at NASA or at scores of other places where these skills are highly valued.”
The project will begin in Fall, 2005.
