Board to oversee Coppin’s B.E.S.T. Project

BALTIMORE (7/09/2010) - A reception announcing the appointment of Coppin’s advisory board for the Baltimore Excellence in Science and Teaching (B.E.S.T.) project was held on Tuesday, June 29 from 6-7:30 p.m. on the fifth floor of the HHSB.
Coppin received funding from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to implement the project, which is a collaborative effort with Towson University and University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute (UMBI). The $1 million grant affords each institution $333,000 for the next three years to initiate B.E.S.T projects that provide professional development and enrichment for students and teachers in the STEM-related fields.
The 12-member Coppin advisory board for B.E.S.T. includes Coppin administrators, leaders in Maryland Higher Education, a councilman and luminaries of the Baltimore City and Baltimore County School Systems.

Dr. Anne O. Emery, former MHEC Commissioner and Baltimore City School Board administrator
Mr. Carlton Epps, chief operating officer of Civic Works and former chief operating officer of the Baltimore City Public School System
Mr. Kenneth N. Oliver, Baltimore County council member of the 4th district and former Coppin adjunct professor
