Board to oversee Coppin’s B.E.S.T. Project By Shernay Williams BALTIMORE (7/09/2010) - A reception announcing the appointment of Coppin’s advisory board for the Baltimore Excellence in Science and Teaching (B.E.S.T.) project was held on Tuesday, June 29 from 6-7:30 p.m. on the fifth floor of the HHSB. Coppin received funding from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to implement the project, which is a collaborative effort with Towson University and University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute (UMBI). The $1 million grant affords each institution $333,000 for the next three years to initiate B.E.S.T projects that provide professional development and enrichment for students and teachers in the STEM-related fields. The 12-member Coppin advisory board for B.E.S.T. includes Coppin administrators, leaders in Maryland Higher Education, a councilman and luminaries of the Baltimore City and Baltimore County School Systems.
