BALTIMORE 2/01/2010 - On February 6, 2010, Coppin State University (CSU) will commence African American History Month festivities with a concert from The Singing Sons of Abraham. Raphael G. Simmons, president of the historical local group from First Tabernacle Church, says he is honored to celebrate African American History with CSU.
“Coppin has always been supportive of us, and it will be an honor to perform there again,” he said.
The Singing Sons of Abraham will present “The 50’s, 60’s and 70’s: A Memory Lane R&B Production,” which will include renditions of such soul hits as “Thriller” by Michael Jackson, “Walk Away From Love” by David Ruffin, and “Betcha By Golly Wow” by the Stylistics.
The nine-member group is admired for their incorporation of dramatic skits and interpretive choreography. For 30 years, the men have performed up and down the east coast’s churches, nursing homes, correctional facilities and youth community centers all in the name of music ministry.
See The Singing Sons of Abraham perform live on Saturday, February 6, 2010 from 7:00-10 p.m. in the James Weldon Johnson Auditorium. General Admission is $20, students and senior citizens pay $15, children pay $10 and Coppin students with ID attend free.
