FAQ

Q. What is a wireless LAN?

A wireless LAN (WLAN) is a network that allows access to the CSU wireless Network and the Internet without the need for any wired connections (cables) to the user's machine.

Q. What do I need to begin using wireless?

A computer (or wireless device) equipped with an external or internal wireless card that is 802.11a, b, or g compliant.

Q. Does the CSU wireless network require authentication?

Yes. To connect to the wireless network, you need to use your Coppin Network Login and password. This may be different from your Eaglelinks password.

Q. My Wireless card won't work. What's wrong with it?

Make sure your wireless card is 802.11a, b, or g compliant. Check the web site of the manufacturer of your wireless card for updated software and/or firmware drivers for your wireless card. If the manufacturer provides newer software and/or firmware updates for your wireless card we recommend you download and install the software/firmware. We also recommend you keep your Windows and/or Macintosh operating systems current and install critical and security updates as well as software related to your wireless card. Microsoft Windows XP provides a 'Windows Update' feature and the Macintosh provides 'Software Update' to easily install these updates and patches.

Q. Can I roam between buildings?

Yes. CSU wireless network extends from the Percy Julian Science Building to the Research Building (including the Northwest Property). All parking lots may experience a very weak signal, it is not recommended to use wireless in these areas (especially Lot E). If you happen to notice a weak signal in a building please complete the Wireless Connection form.

Q. I woke my computer from sleep mode and can not connect to the wireless network.

Computers may disconnect from the CSU wireless network when entering sleep (or hibernate) mode. To resolve this issue, simply log back into the wireless network. To prevent this situation from occurring in the future you may want to increase the time specified in the Energy Saver inactive sleep mode setting or change the sleep mode setting to never.

Q. Is printing possible while using the wireless network on Campus?

Printing is unavailable when connected to the wireless network on campus.

Q. I don't use Windows XP or Mac OSX. Can I still use CSU's wireless network?

If your laptop or mobile device has WiFi certified 802.11a, b, or g wireless capabilities (most wireless enabled laptops fit this description) and your web browser supports SSL, then you should be able access the CSU wireless network.

Q. Do I need to logoff when I am finished?

We recommend you logoff when finished with your wireless session. To logoff, click on the Logoff button on the Logoff Page Pop-Up window
