Admission Criteria & Procedure
There are two types of admissions into the MSN program (Regular and Provisional) college
policy is followed for:
- Evaluation of Transfer Credit
- GRE Requirement (Graduate Bulletin 2001-2002)
- TOEFL for International Student Applicant
Requirements For Regular Admission To The Master's Program:
- A baccalaureate degree from an NLN accredited School of Nursing with an
overall undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- GRE
- Licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Maryland
- Three professional letters of reference
- International students educated in a basic nursing program where English
is not the language of instruction are not required to take the GRE, but must achieve
at least 550 on the TOFEL
Requirements For Provisional Admission To The Master's Program:
This category is for students who do not meet regular admission requirements, but are
given an opportunity to demonstrate by performance their ability to succeed in graduate
study, or are given the opportunity to complete regular admission requirements.
Applicants who fall into one or more of the following categories may be considered for
provisional admission.
- An overall undergraduate GPA of 2.80
- GRE scores below University requirement.
Students in these categories who maintain a 3.0 graduate GPA after 9 credit hours will
be automatically moved to regular admission status. (Coppin State University, Graduate
Bulletin, 2001-2002)
