Coppin State University's campus did not sustain any damage from Hurricane Irene.
The campus will open Monday, August 29, 2011 for normal operating hours. Classes will start as scheduled and on time.
In preparation for Hurricane Irene, additional precautionary measures are being requested.
Faculty, staff and students departing campus today are asked to power-down their computers as well as the computers of office mates who may not be present today.
Persons not having official business with the university are asked not to come to campus.
Additionally, Coppin State University has agreed to be a Hurricane Irene evacuation site for residents within the State of Maryland. The Office of Public Safety is actively working with the Maryland Emergency Management Agency to prepare the campus to accept evacuees.
In anticipation of an impending threat from Hurricane Irene, Governor O’Malley has declared a State of Emergency for Maryland. Proactively, Coppin State University (CSU) has implemented its Emergency Preparedness Plan. The plan provides for the safety of the students, faculty and staff as well as management of Coppin’s facilities.
Please stay abreast of changes in Hurricane Irene’s status by monitoring major news outlets. Students, faculty and staff can receive updates related to Coppin’s Emergency Preparedness Plan by visiting CSU’s Website: www.coppin.edu. Additional contact will be made by text, home phone and email.
Students currently residing in the Residence Halls who are able and willing to go home have been asked to do so. (Procedures allowing for student accountability are in place.) Ample provisions have been made for students who will remain on campus.
Please contact the Office of Public Safety at 410 951-3900 for any questions or concerns.
