The mission of the Youth Dance Scholarship Program is to provide youth (ages 5 ½ -17) with the highest level of training and performance experiences. The goal of the program is to bridge the gap between the arts and academia by offering quality arts education instructions taught by trained, professional artist-educators.
Students are engaged in structured learning experiences that increase their understanding of dance as a performing art form; thus, requiring a high level of participant and parental commitment and dedication! Parents are required to sign a Parent’s Commitment Statement. The PCS statement clearly defines your responsibility and our expectations.
Each year the Youth Dance Program selects 75 students to participate in the program. Students are selected based on their natural ability to demonstrate movement with a high level of proficiency and intellectual competencies. Each student must attend a placement audition prior to admittance into the program (See Placement Audition Information).
All scholarship students must attend the placement audition (see placement audition information). Beginning level students are not required to attend the placement audition. Contact the dance office at 410-951-6880 for more information.
The program subsidizes the yearly tuition for each student accepted into the BRAVO! Dance program. BRAVO! Scholarship Students ranked at above the beginning level must register for at least one ballet and one modern dance class. (Visit BRAVO! Youth Dance Scholarship Program)
The role of the dance faculty is to educate the whole student while building confidence, teamwork, and leadership qualities, and expanding the student’s intellectual and creative competences as an individual.
All beginning level students must register for the introduction to dance class--a blend ballet and modern dance techniques.
Classes are held on Wednesday (6-8 p.m.); Thursday (6-8 p.m.); Friday (6-10:30 p.m.) and Saturday (9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.). Visit Dance Schedule for class information.
Female students are required to wear leotards with pink tights and appropriate dance shoes (pink ballet slippers/ slip-on black jazz shoes). Male dancers wear white fitted t-shirt, black sweat pants and white socks with appropriate dance shoes (black ballet or jazz shoes). Hair must be securely pulled back away from the face. Additional information regarding the School’s policies and procedures are placed in your welcome packet.
