The mission of the Community Youth Dance Scholarship Program is to provide youth (ages 4½ - Adults) with the highest level of training and performance experiences. The goal of the program is to bridge the gap between the arts and academia by offering quality arts education instructions taught by trained, professional artist-educators.
Students are engaged in structured learning experiences that increase their understanding of dance as a performing art form; thus, requiring a high level of participant and parental commitment and dedication! Parents are required to sign a Parent’s Commitment Statement. The PCS statement clearly defines your responsibility and our expectations.
Each the year the Community Youth Dance Scholarship Program selects 90 students to participate in the program. Students are selected based on their natural ability to demonstrate movement with a high level of proficiency and intellectual competencies. Each student must attend a placement audition prior to admittance into the program.

Classes are held in the Physical Education Building (PEC) Dance Studio located on the second floor of the south entrance (off of Warwick Avenue). The dance studio is located near the wellness center. Campus parking is available using the pay box (next to the dorms).

Parents can receive a 10% tuition discount on their first payment minus registration and costume fees. For more information contact: dance@coppin.edu
Mail should be postmarked by August 21, 2011 to receive the 10% early bird discount (Note: requirements for receiving discount).
In-Person Registration:
Continuous Registration is held prior to the class period provided spaces are available (see schedule for more information).
Late Registration:
October 2-November 1, 2011 (additional $10.00 processing fee)
Minimum enrollment is eight (8) students per class. If the minimum enrollment is not met, the class may be canceled or combined with a similar class.
Make-up classes are available during December 1-17, 2011(students may attend additional classes due to any class cancellation or sickness-permission is required). Send an email to dance@coppin.edu requesting a make-up class (include child’s name, current class, and make-up class desired).
In case of inclement weather, contact the dance program at 410-951-3355 to retrieve a voice message regarding class cancellations.
Requests for class withdrawal must be made by the parent/guardian using the Withdrawal Form, which can be obtained from the director. The tuition payment will be adjusted accordingly. No refunds shall be made for withdrawals not timely made, and the undersigned parent/guardian shall remain responsible for payment.
The student attire package is $ 40.00, which includes your child’s leotard and pink tights for the program. The fee is paid in advance, and all students are required to wear their uniform to participate in the program unless an exception is made by the Director. Undergarments (except a support bra) are not worn under the leotard and tights, and hair must be secured back away from the face - no exceptions! Dance attire must be worn for all classes including hip hop.
Shoes are NOT included in the attire package.
Yoga mats are provided for the yoga classes. Students may wear comfortable exercise attire for the yoga classes.
