Admission Requirements and Transferring Credit

Admission Requirements

In addition to the general requirements for admission to the School of Graduate studies, an applicant for the Master of Education must be a certified and practicing teacher. The applicant must provide official documentation to verify certification status.

The Graduate record Examination (GRE) or Miller Analogies test (MAT) is required. A combined score of 800 is required for the GRE and a minimum score of 45 is required for the MAT.

A 3.0 GPA is required for admission to the program. Students must maintain 3.0 GPA to continue in the program. Applicants having a GPA of 2.5 - 2.9 will be considered for admission to enroll in six credits and attain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. In addition students must have access to a classroom for application of concepts and strategies.

Transfer Credit

A maximum of twelve (12) credits may be transferred from any of the institutions in the University System of Maryland. All transfer credits MUST be processed at the time of admission. Courses will be evaluated to determine currency and equivalency. Requests to transfer credit must be submitted in writing at the time of the application, along with a course description and syllabus to the Chairperson for review.
