Soon the big day will be upon you—the culmination of your academic studies at Coppin. Commencement is the program designed to celebrate your academic achievement, whether it is the Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree.
Commencements date back to the 13th century. The term was adopted to denote ceremonies in which academic degrees are conferred—"commencement" means the act of beginning—and for many the receipt of an academic degree signifies the beginning of a new phase of life.
Commencement Traditions
The first higher education commencement took place in the 13th century, and many of the traditions date back to that period. Coppin includes many of those traditions in its commencements. Please view the links to the left for more information on our traditions starting with Academic Regalia.
