THE CAMPAIGN FOR COPPIN: BECOME PART OF OUR FUTURE

Coppin State University shares a long and distinguished history with the citizens of Baltimore and beyond.

Founded in 1900 as a program for educating African-American teachers, the college was named to honor Fanny Jackson Coppin, a former slave who graduated from Oberlin College in 1865, holding the distinction of being the first African American female to earn a degree. Fanny Jackson Coppin served as a teacher and principal for many years, and made improving the quality of black education in 19th century America a focus of her life's work.

Today as a leader in urban education, Coppin State University is a model comprehensive, urban, liberal arts university that offers innovative, career-oriented instructional programs designed to serve the needs of Baltimore City, the state, and the nation. Coppin has served Baltimore's communities by educating many of the city's finest teachers, school administrators, health care providers, social services professionals, and correctional and law enforcement personnel. The University has also given to the city and the world talented physicians, scientists, journalists, musicians, and artists - indeed, people of vision and achievement in virtually every walk of life.

With a growing population of over 4000 students who are enrolled in day, evening and weekend undergraduate and graduate courses, we will continue to provide talented leaders for today and the future. As we embark on a second century of leadership and service, Coppin extends to you the invitation to Become Part of Our Future by supporting our efforts to continue to provide talented individuals and resources to the city, the state and the world. We hope you will join us in our capital campaign 'The Campaign For Coppin: Become Part of Our Future' and our efforts to raise $15 million dollars over the next five years that will be used to continue to prepare the best and the brightness for tomorrow's challenges.
