Prospective Students

Federal Student Aid assists students enrolled at least half time to pay for tuition and fees, books, room and board, transportation and supplies. Students wishing to receive Federal Aid must meet the criteria for receiving aid as well as meet the application deadlines.

Knowing the importance of this application process, we have developed an outline students can follow to ensure that all deadlines and requirements for receiving Federal Aid are met. The outline will go through the process of applying for Federal Aid, as well as, the different types of Federal Aid awarded. One thing to keep in mind is that the sooner the FASFA applications are submit the better, so start early.

Eligibility Requirements:

The first step to applying for federal aid is to make sure you meet the eligibility requirements. Some requirements for receiving federal aid at Coppin State University are:

  • Admitted to Coppin State University as a degree or certificate-seeking student.
  • Enrolled at least half time (6 credits for undergraduate students and 5 credits for graduate students).
  • Must be a US citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Have a valid social security number.
  • Students on a F1, F2, J1, J2 or a G series visa are not eligible for federal aid.
  • Registered with selective services (if required).
