The Offices of University Relations is responsible for the representation and promotion of the University, and its faculty, students, programs, and policies to a variety of external constituents, including the media, the federal and local governments, and the neighboring communities.

As you may know, OUR is responsible for the consistent graphic and editorial presentation of CSU to all internal and external publics. Quality communications enhance the University's image and help relate Coppin's mission more effectively to parents, faculty, alumni, potential donors, prospective students and the general public.

Although it is the responsibility of every Coppin employee to maintain the institution's identity by following the standards set forth in Coppin's Visual Standards Manual, OUR helps ensure the standards are met by reviewing all communication materials produced for university departments and divisions.

The Marketing division reviews the layout to ensure consistency with graphic standards and reviews the content to ensure it is clear, persuasive and correct in terms of grammar and style. The review process is required regardless of whether materials are meant for an internal or an external audience and whether they are produced on or off campus.

Before you go to press with a brochure, ad or other publication item, contact the Office of University Relations at (410) 951-4200 to arrange for the required review. Be sure to allow enough time in your production schedule for the review and any necessary editorial or graphic changes.

General guidelines for how long to allow for a required review are listed below. Please be mindful that the reviewer's workload and institutional priorities may slightly alter the turnaround time. If the review will take longer than indicated below, the reviewer will contact you in advance to negotiate a mutually agreeable deadline:

  • Flyers, posters and similar brief items -- three (3) working days
  • Newsletters, tri-fold brochures, event programs and similar medium-length items -- five (5) working days
  • Longer materials such as magazines, newspapers, or lengthy brochures - seven (7) working days

This timeline presumes that the material has already been (reviewed) through your department's review and approval process when it is submitted to OUR.

Please also be aware that, in the case of certain items, such as academic publications and faculty/staff recruitment advertising, additional reviews by other Coppin State University offices may be necessary.
